Tim is the abbreviation of Timahdite, or rather the name of a village in the Middle Atlas range in Morocco in which mats were made. The symbol the weavers embellished the mats with is very distinctive, this is why Ceramgres has chosen it to decorate the Tim collection of tiles.
The composition consists of a vertically and horizontally mirrored module with symmetrical and convergent appendices that give an idea of highly stylised limbs that are turned inward, towards the womb. The negative interpretation of the composition reveals symbols alike the head of a bird among the 'limbs'. This symbolic bird was considered sacred in pre-historic times and was one of the most significant ways of representing the Earth Goddess because its migrations associated it to the changing seasons, and to the rain - and thus to fertility in its widest sense.
The adaptation of the pattern onto the tiles resulted in a reinterpretation of the symbol. This was made possible by recomposing the stylistic elements that aimed at clearly showing to full advantage the birds, whose heads shine from their vitrified transparency.
